A ministry to the Seniors at Faith Bible Church
Promoting Christlikeness through the TEACHING of God’s Word,
FELLOWSHIP with other seniors, and SERVING others in the body of Christ.
“…you appear as lights in the world, holding fast the word of life” (Philippians 2:15-16)
Our FOCUS ministry is designed to serve those who have joined the ranks of senior citizen status, however you wish to define it. There are new situations before us as we enter these years, but each situation presents an opportunity to grow and serve: to grow in Christlikeness and serve our great God. We want to help by providing our seniors with the help they need to take advantage of every opportunity that God brings into their lives.
We will let our name tell you what we want to do.
Fellowship: Providing spiritual fellowship
Fellowship is more than just getting together with other people. It is an opportunity to help one another in our walk with God. “Let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds.” (Hebrews 10:24)
Outreach: Reaching out to others with the Gospel
Seniors not only have their “old friends”, but we are constantly meeting new people who are in the same station of life. Many of them need to hear the gospel. Through our meetings and special events, we encourage you to include these new friends. “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth.” (Acts 1:8)
Christlikeness: Becoming more like Christ
No one should ever be satisfied with their spiritual accomplishments. Everyone needs to continue to grow more like Christ. We have an SMG (Senior Ministry Gathering) every Friday where we will focus on the Word of God and hold one another accountable as we pursue Christ. “The one who says he abides in Him ought himself to walk in the same manner as He walked.” (1 John 2:6)
Useful: Using our time to serve Christ and others
Being a senior does not mean that we should hang it up and let someone else do everything. We still have something to offer. We want to help each person find a way to use their gifts and skills to serve in the church. “As each one has received a special gift, employ it in serving one another as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.” (1 Peter 4:10)
Seniors: Building community
Seniors like to be with their families, no doubt about it. But they also enjoy time being with other seniors. We are planning special activities and events where we can share, enjoy, and build one another up. “They were continually devoting themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.” (Acts 2:42)
We meet regularly on Friday mornings at 10:00 for our SMG (Senior Ministry Gathering). We will also have some classes on Sunday mornings from time to time, as well as coming together for special events such as day trips, conferences, and other activities that will help us build a community of seniors who bring glory to God in all that we do.
